Camp PGT - PGT Kids
During each two week session, The PGT Kids take classes in Acting, Dance, Voice, Improv, On Camera, and more. In addition, time is set aside every day for creative play and fun crafts! PGT Kids rehearse daily, and each session culminates in the performance of a one act ensemble musical that the PGT Kids help write!
 
From “Morning Hello” to theatre games each afternoon, the days are filled with imagination, creativity, nurtured friendships, new challenges, laughter, singing, dancing and so much more for the PGT Kids.
 
New material is covered in each session and we look forward to having many of the same students from session 1 return for session 2. Students registering for both sessions receive a discount! Or combine either session with another 1 or 2 week program!

Camp PGT - On Camera
Get behind and in front of the camera, inside the writing room, and completely immersed in the entire process of film and TV production during PGT’s On Camera!
 
Working as a collaborative team, the On Camera Crew will create fresh content; from developing and pitching a new idea, to storyboarding and writing a script, to a finished product which you will cast, direct, and film. You might just star in it too! That’s up to you! Classes include On Camera Acting, Scriptwriting, Lighting and Sound, and Cinematography.

Camp PGT - Improv
Immerse yourself in the fun, unpredictable and wild world of Improv for one week!
 
Explore the world of improvisation in a fun and supportive environment! PGT's Improv Week provides the opportunity to learn Improv techniques and concepts, and to continue to expand improvisational skills, while having a blast! Students are encouraged to think imaginatively and playfully in a program where emphasis is given to ensemble building, learning how to make quick choices, and following each unique creative impulse to the fullest. Additional classes in acting, movement, stage combat, accents and on camera acting add lots of variety and develop valuable skills!

Camp PGT - Playwriting
Find your voice as you explore the craft of writing for the theatre during PGT’s Playwriting Week!
 
Students work together to create a series of 10 minute plays while examining scene and overall play structure, characters, conflict, events, dialogue, and action. Emphasis is placed on idea generation, creative risk taking, and a collaborative process. The playwriting process includes lots of improv games, creative exercises and fun writing prompts. Additional classes in acting, movement, improv and more round out the week, and provide an additional lens for our writers to view their work and each other!

First Stage
With twice weekly rehearsals (Mon/Thurs or Tues/Wed) or NEW! once weekly Saturday rehearsals, First Stage actors have the opportunity to build a sense of community while honing the skills they already have, and learning lots of new ones too! And because weekday rehearsals are two hours long (5-7pm), our youngest actors are able to balance various activities, school work, and bedtime with their PGT schedule. (Or with our NEW Saturday option, kids can get all four hours of rehearsal in on the weekend, and leave weekdays open for school and other activities!) While kids can look forward to a truly collaborative and joyful process, filled with learning and laughter, parents can plan around their child’s PGT schedule way in advance!
 
The amazing team of James Powers (composer) and Ilana Zahava Abusch (playwright) have been commissioned to create three original musicals for First Stage 2026-27, which we will produce in three distinct seasons, staged in our fabulous 120 seat Jonah Mac Theatre. PGT sets, costumes, and props complete the picture during two tech rehearsals (4:30-8:30pm).

Acting
PGT's Acting classes introduce students to the world of theater through exploration, curiosity, and creative play. In PGT's fun and supportive environment, Teaching Artists guide students through the process of building emotional connections to text and scene partners, and developing the focus, confidence, imagination, and sense of play that are essential to being an actor.
 
Using material from plays, poems, and children’s books, students build confidence, creativity, and communication skills while experiencing the joy of performance and collaboration.
 
Sessions culminate in an open class where students share their work with family and friends. Each season is unique and shaped by student interests, allowing students to return and continue growing as artists.

Improv
PGT's Improv focuses on making quick choices and following each unique creative impulse to the fullest. All the rules of Improv are covered over the course of the season, and students get the opportunity to perform in a live Improv Showcase!

Musical Theatre
Discover the power of storytelling through song in PGT’s musical theatre class. Designed for students who want to blend technical vocal skills with character development, this course focuses on integrating singing and acting.
 
Students will dive into a diverse repertoire of Broadway music to build vocal strength, pitch control, and healthy breath support, while analyzing lyrics to make unique and authentic character choices. While this is not a dance class, students will explore movement and physical expression to embody characters and confidently command the stage.
 
Our musical theatre classes are offered for students aged 7-12! Each season of classes will be unique and be guided by student interest so that students may take class multiple times and get something new out of each season! Looking for performance opportunities? Private Lessons
Private lessons are a great way to work on your skill individually with one of our amazing teachers! When fine tuning your voice & acting, PGT is the key!
 
Study with one of PGT's incredible teaching artists in a one-on-one setting. Private lessons allow you to focus on your individual skills and are tailored for your development. The Play Group Theatre's professional staff is available to personalize your actor training experience.
 
Lessons are available on a single or weekly basis. Weekly lesson students may take advantage of a discounted eight week package.
